The “father of History”, Herodote, whose nickname should rather be “the first occidental reporter” , had visited the monuments of Giza and interviewed the high-ranking officials around : he got some flawed informations after giving his word to keep secret a few precious revelations he heard about the underground structure of Giza and the nature of the Sphinx….First example of self-censorship?
Whatever, the place is supposed to keep secrets. From the Greeks and the Romans to the Arabs, we can’t count anymore the number of books, stories, chronicles, rumours and legends surrounding the plateau of Giza about “dangers” and “wonders”, especially about the underground corridors, the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid so close. That idea went beyond the time of Renaissance and would be given a new life with spiritual organizations, aiming to trace back theirs origins to Ancient Egypt. Therefore, from the Rosicrucians of the sixteenth century to the Freemasons of the twentieth, not forget the Theosophists of the nineteeth, there will be many to believe in the ideal of a primordial time linked to Egypt, its initiations and its heritage.
The end of the last century gave a new bith also for what is called by the german researcher Erik Hornung, “egyptosophy”, or the perpetual quest through centuries and cultures of the “first and last Wisdom” known by the scientist-priests of the country. The genesis of a socio-spiritual movement in California during the sixties, called the “New Age”, has given strenght to an occultist theory of a labyrinth under the Giza plateau, especially deep under the Sphinx, in which would be found one day a divine heritage, coming from a lost civilization.
Nowadays, you can find on the Internet any belief or theory about the Great Pyramid that was before under scrutinity inside secret groups. It’s not unusual to see a teenager “playing the teacher” with weird ideas about Egypt that were before only heard in the mouth of an old excentric aristocrat.
The core of the belief? There is in Egypt, somewhere under or inside the Great Pyramid, some “material” so special that it would give shock and awe by showing surprising facts about the past, nature and destiny of mankind. No less no more. For these dreamers, mad or seer, the time for the discovery draws nigh.
That’s why any investigation, even a small one, of the Great pyramid, awakens some excitement or fear much more deeper than any archeological exploration. Like the black monolith of “2001″, the monument is waiting to release its signal for some brave readers of the signs. Whether you believe in the “psychic” force of the place or whether you need hard facts to see, “pyramidiots” or laughing ones, future will tell. Without your consent.
